Rewatching Younger: Why It’s Comfort TV, Even When It’s Boring

There’s something about rewatching Younger on Netflix that keeps pulling me back in. Is it the ridiculous premise? The charm of Sutton Foster pretending to be a 26-year-old? The endless parade of stylish outfits and New York publishing drama? Or maybe it’s the familiar comfort of knowing exactly what’s going to happen while still laughing at the same jokes.

The funny thing is, sometimes I find it entertaining, other times I find it kind of boring, yet I keep pressing play. It’s become one of those shows I watch at completely random times—morning coffee, late-night scrolling, background noise while folding laundry. It doesn’t matter what day or what mood I’m in, Younger always fits.

But why do we rewatch shows over and over again? I think it’s a mix of nostalgia, comfort, and pure laziness. Finding a new show requires energy—getting to know new characters, paying attention to a fresh plot. With a rewatch, there’s no pressure. You already know what’s coming, but you still love the ride. It’s like visiting an old friend—you don’t need to make small talk or impress them; you just get to exist together.

And let’s be honest, Younger has moments that are so good they deserve a second (or third) watch. Liza’s secret almost getting exposed, Kelsey’s career ups and downs, Diana Trout’s statement necklaces and perfect one-liners—iconic. Even though I know exactly what’s coming, I still react like it’s my first time seeing it. And then there are episodes that feel like filler, and I wonder why I’m watching at all—only to find myself pressing play again the next day.

Maybe that’s the magic of a good rewatch. It doesn’t need to be groundbreaking every time. It just needs to be there. Reliable, funny, stylish, and a little bit absurd—just like Younger itself.
